Getting a Replacement Driving Licence
Your Driving Licence must be replaced if it is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. Although you are not required to carry the licence at all times, you must own a valid licence to drive any motor vehicle.
To apply for a replacement you must –
- Be a resident of Great Britain (Northern Ireland operate their own scheme)
- Not be disqualified from driving
- Own a current UK passport or other form of identity
- Provide proof of address for the past 3 years
If you have a current UK passport, or if your lost/stolen licence is due to expire within 2 years, DVLA will use the photo held on file and applications can be made online. If this is not possible, you will need to print the application form and send it with two biometric passport photos.
The cost of replacing a lost or stolen licence is currently £20
